In 2007 a Georgia statewide law revoked well privileges so that property owners within so (how many?) many miles of city water could not have wells, and had to obtain water from the county they resided in. When this law came to pass, Janette King knew it was going to affect home owners in Indian Creek Plantation. Several of the inhabitants have horses and farms, and since feeding animals or watering plants with city water can be extremely costly, Janette contacted state representative Senator Ross Tolleson , the Houston County Commissioners, and the Houston County Health Department.
With the help of Senator Ross Tolleson , Janette King fought so that wells would be allowed on the Indian Creek Plantation property. After over three months of petitioning, the law was amended, and residents with 3 acres or more at Indian Creek Plantation and all over the state were allowed to dig irrigation wells again. Janette King was not asked to work on behalf of home-owners across the state, nor did she ask for any donation or money for her hard work, she fought the law because she knew it was what was best for not only the residents of Indian Creek Plantation, but the residents of the State of Georgia. |
